Finals Week

While finals are definitely a stressful time, thinking about what comes after should stand as a motivator. The endless summer days with your friends, no worries in the world, except for exceeding the limit on sunscreen. We are at the final stretch. Just a little more to go until the race is finished. You made it to this point. You’ve come so far and worked so hard to get here. Don’t give up now.

For years I find myself getting worked up about exams, not properly dealing with the stress that follows. I’ve learned how to efficiently prepare myself for finals, while maintaining my healthiest self.

I’m sure you’ve been told to make bucket lists your entire life. Well, I for sure have. I used to roll my eyes anytime someone would suggest a checklist for my works and tasks. Now I don’t even need another person to tell me, I just do it for myself. Checklists have saved my life.

I tend to be pretty organized and on top of my school work, but occasionally I will forget about assignments and be forced to cram it in late at night and submit inadequate work. Making a checklist of every task you need to complete allows you to stay ahead of school work and properly prepare for exams.

Studying in areas that are unfamiliar to me is super beneficial. I believe that sitting for too long in the same location leads me to feeling tired, bored, or unmotivated. When I realize I’m losing focus I make myself get up and change my study spot. A simple change in scenery makes me feel refreshed, and focused. I would highly recommend studying somewhere quiet, like a library or school building. Being around other people who are also working makes me feel motivated, and that I don’t have a choice but to study.

Aside from school and studying, it is important to put your mental health first. You won’t do well if you don’t focus on your body and what it’s telling you. Taking little breaks in between studying, going on walks, listening to music, or exercising are a few tips I’d suggest to one, in order to have the best possible outcomes when it comes to finals. Some people tend to overwork themselves, stay up all night, following a lack of proper appetite. The reality of these behaviors is that one will not do better on their exams if they’re up all night and not treating their body properly.

In times of heavy stress and work, it is hard to remember your worth. Don’t let one test, one exam, one class determine your future. You must tell yourself how bright you are, as well as positive affirmations on the daily. Work hard, focus on what needs to get done, and be confident.
